It’s Two AM

It's two A.M. (It's two A.M.)
Fear is gone (fear is gone)
I'm sitting here waiting…

  • Golden Earring, Twilight Zone

Woke up this morning on the wrong side of bed
I got this feeling like a train's running through my head
Turned on my radio to the same old song
Some big mouth talking trying to tell us where the world went wrong….

  • Cinderella, The More Things Change

And so I sit here at 2AM on November 4th waiting for the other shoe to drop and can’t help think that the more things change, the more that they will stay the same. Over the past few days, I’ve heard complaints from co workers, family, neighbors, social media, talking heads, my kid’s teachers, etc. that the world will end if one party or the other gains an advantage. So, the numbers are trickling in now and some vote tallies are still up for grabs… and it feels more and more like 531 U.S. 98 (2000) repeating itself in some of these cases.

But that just may be sleep dep talking.

At the end of the day, each of us needs to look in the mirror at ourselves. We need to be comfortable with our decision, our vote. There is no need to justify it to others , no need to take offense to those with a differing allegiance or priority. There is more to life than the politics, and this alone cannot be the justification or rationalization to instill fear or mete out destruction in our own neighborhoods. While it may make good print in a zombie movie or the Purge, in the end, the destructive end is only self-serving.

Be safe out there.

Five Miles Downrange:

Hey ! We are still writing !

At the risk of repeating myself from last week - I’m hoping to come to a conclusion on Conscription (Parts 1 , 2, 3, and 4, can be seen in the links provided- and this time I’m providing them) in upcoming weeks, and have also been working on the next Pair of Normal Girls novel (working title : Angry Sun, Proper Moon) as well as a series of short stories (working title : An Unkindness of Ravens). The goal is to get at least one of these books out in 2021 for your entertainment. I’ll also add in that I’m thinking of conducing an overhaul of Blue Summer - but welcome the readership’s thoughts on that.

JES Campbell

Indie author of the Pair of Normal Girls Mystery series based on Urban Legends of Southern Maryland with a creepy and paranormal twist.
