This story tracks the origin of Hester and Tempy’s relationship in the late 1970’s to the 1980’s as they solve the source of mysterious murders around the rural countryside of La Plata, MD. Working alongside the XILED outlaw biker gang, the duo work to uncover the spectral forces at work while racing against the clock to save as many fellow teens that have been marked for death.

In contrast, Gruff Ending starts where Blue Summer let off where Hester and Tempy have been left to their own designs to interpret their own disparate worlds. The past antics of the summer come back to haunt Hester and her family’s sensible views of polite society, while Tempy is haunted by a past she cannot shake in the afterlife. Both are drawn into a crossroads of investigations by the FBI , Department of Defense, and local law enforcement as supernatural forces close in around them.
